The “Bob” award was created in 2006 to honor BATC members for their service to the homebuilding industry. It was named to honor BATC’s former Executive Vice President Robert L. (Bob) Hanson for his incredible contributions to the home builders associations and the new home and remodeling industry over nearly 30 years. Hanson retired at the end of 2006 after serving as Executive Vice President for the St. Paul Area Builders Association and later the Builders Association of the Twin Cities. Hanson personally awarded Nelson and Cundy during Tuesday night’s banquet.
Selecting the winners was a challenge, as many BATC members have a long history of service to the industry and to their communities. A total of 12 individuals were nominated by BATC's working committees, five builders/remodelers and seven associate members (whose companies supply products and services to builders/remodelers). Blind biographies from each nominee outlined his or her contributions to BATC, to the Builders Association of Minnesota (BAM), and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), plus other industry accomplishments and volunteer work within the community. The biographies were then reviewed by BATC’s Awards and Recognition Committee which selected, by consensus, one builder/remodeler and one associate member to receive this honor.
“The commitment of our members in giving their time and effort to our industry and our communities is incredible,” says Michael Noonan, 2007 BATC President and Division President of Toll Brothers. “These are people who work hard at their own businesses and careers, but also see the value in bringing their talent and energy to the bigger picture. Both Doug and George have well-served our industry for many years, they are both exceptional choices for the Robert L. Hanson Awards.”
